In 2008, some 67 percent of hedge fund money went to Democrats. Now Republicans are ahead with 70 percent of industry cash, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Per Politico, the largest conservative donor is Clarium Capital’s Peter Thiel, who has given $3.8 million mostly to Ron Paul. Citadel’s Kenneth Griffin has given $2.3 billion, mostly to pro–Mitt Romney groups. Paul Singer of Elliott Management has given $2.1 million to both the Romney campaign and gay marriage supporters. James Simons of Renaissance tops the Democratic donors, with $2.2 million. (Photograph by Jin Lee/Bloomberg)
