Hedge funds were victorious over their private equity counterparts in this year’s Net Gain Tournament in New York, a basketball charity event. The game was close, with the hedge fund team squeaking out a 14-12 win.
“We opened up with a big lead, and our guys got a little tired, so then private equity made a run for it,” said MKP Capital Management’s Ben Parks. “It ended up being a close game.”
The game kicked off a round robin tournament. The $554,000 raised that evening went to provide basketball court time for New York City public high schools that don’t have home courts.
The hedge fund team included Simeon Etta and Eric Seeve of GoldenTree Asset Management; Jay McCareins of Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisors; Michael Tobin of P. Schoenfeld Asset Management; and Kyle Westby of MKP Capital. Veterans Parks and McCareins played in last year’s match, which also resulted in a victory.
