SAC Capital Advisors founder Steve Cohen joined the bidding to own a stake in the New York Mets, according to The Wall Street Journal.
A Mets fan, Cohen knows the team’s controlling Wilpon family, who have been under attack for their investments with Bernie Madoff from other investors in the Ponzi scheme.
Other bidders for the Mets reportedly include Steve Starker, the co-founder of trading firm BTIG and Anthony Scaramucci, managing partner of SkyBridge Capital.
A spokesman for Cohen declined to comment on the bid, which would be for 25% to 49% of the team.
