Steve Cohen has acquired yet another iconic piece of twentieth century art. The SAC Capital Advisors founder bought a Jasper Johns ‘Flag’ painting via a private sale. Painted in 1958, the piece is one of the larger canvases in Johns’ seminal series depicting the Stars and Stripes. Cohen is probably the best-known art collector in hedge funds. Previous purchases include Damien Hirst’s shark in formaldehyde, a Jackson Pollock drip painting and a painting in Willem de Kooning’s ‘Woman’ series.
